Yeah, I like the school one better, too. It's tough because the editors want to cram as many stories as possible on the fronts, and we have a column on the left nearly every day. I just try to do the best with what I have.
As far as style is concerned, we follow Globe style, which has strange departures from AP. For instance: underway, website (yet, Web page), cellphone, fund-raising ... I have a running list to keep myself out of trouble.

I like the one with summer school much better. Somehow the one with tomatoes looks really heavy. Maybe it's the page-length column on the right.
FYI, if you guys follow AP style, fundrais*** has lost its hyphen in all uses. Nonprofit, too.
